A Review by Sara Lyons

The apocalyptic theme has been very prevalent in literature for centuries, labeling different years and reasons for the end of our world in a very serious manner. In Gaiman and Pratchett’s version of the Armageddon, the world is going to end on a Saturday, as prophesied in The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch.

This story of the Apocalypse centers on four main plotlines: the Earth’s two remaining witch-hunters, the Four Bikers of the Apocalypse, the Anti-Christ, and an angel (Aziraphale) and a demon (Crowley) who are not ready for the end just yet.

The Four Bikers of the Apocalypse have each started to mark chaos in the world in their own ways: pollution, death, famine, and war. The two witch-hunters, one being the descendent of Agnes Nutter, are preparing to fight these “bikers” and the Anti-Christ, in defense of the Earth though they stand no chance using their out of date weapons.

Aziraphale and Crowley have been preparing themselves for the end of the world for some time now, but, having lived on reason they decide to seek out and kill the Anti-Christ. However, in an intriguing twist, he suddenly seems to be missing.

This story is classic Gaiman and Pratchett in that it takes a well-known story and adds comedic and fantastical twists to it to make it originally their own. Good Omens is well-written and has a well-thought out plot that incorporates many sub-stories happening simultaneously. These two science fiction Gods have mapped out the story in a way that is easy and intriguing to read. If you are looking for a book that incorporates fantasy, humor, and likable characters, then this book is the one for you!
