Notre Dame junior Katie Gwiazdowski won the No. 1 singles flight Sunday afternoon at the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference Tennis Championships at Wilson College.
Gwiazdowski defeated Chatham College's Beth Wolensky in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, to win the top singles' position. She also teamed with freshman Meryl Krich to win the No. 1 doubles flight, 8-5, over Wolensky and Kristen Willard.
As a team, the Gators finished third with 29 points. Hood College won the title with 38 points, and Chatham was second with 30.5.
Notre Dame junior Monica Cherry beat Hood's Stephanie Garrett, 8-6, to win the No. 3 singles flight, as well.
Gwiazdowski finished the season with an 11-1 singles record, setting a Notre Dame single-season record for wins in a season. She was undefeated in AWCC play and also beat No. 1 singles players from Catholic University, St. Mary's College of Maryland, McDaniel College, Villa Julie College and York College of Pennsylvania.
Despite beating Wolensky in straight sets last Sunday and during the regular-season, Wolensky was named AWCC Most Outstanding Player by a vote of the conference coaches.
Krich and sophomore Alli Phillips each won their respective consolation finals. Krich beat Wilson College's Ashley Vincent, 8-5, in the No. 2 singles flight, and Phillips defeated Wilson's Shannon Solo, 9-8, in the No. 6 singles.
