Marriage is defined as the state of being united to another person in a contractual relationship, according to law or custom. Traditionally we consider marriage to be between a man and a woman and never has it crossed my mind to think that it is possible for same sex couples to be engaged, let alone married. This idea has always been peculiar to me giving that the union between a man and a woman by way of marriage is a doctrine of nature that cannot be tampered with. Merely by giving consideration to the idea of gay marriage, we are tainting the authenticity and sanctity of marriage. Whether you claim to be spiritual or not, most would agree that one of the main objectives of marriage is to reproduce. Even the old elementary school saying states "first comes love, then comes marriage, and then comes Rosy with the baby carriage." It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a man cannot conceive a child with another man, just as it is impossible for a woman to conceive a child with another woman. This implication leads to the belief that marriage was intended for a man and a woman. Gay marriage is, in itself, just wrong; there is no such thing as a groom walking down the aisle while his groom is anxiously awaiting him. The very thought of it is mind boggling. In every aspect, morally, religiously and politically, marriage is universally recognized as the union between a man and a woman. If you end up falling in love with someone of the same sex then you have the right to pursue your feelings with that person. However, one should not overstep his/her boundaries by trying to break the sacredness of the sanctity of marriage. The argument for gay marriage supporters is that they are to be given the same rights as heterosexuals. However, marriage is not about proving points - it is about commitment and loyalty to the one you love, but most importantly, since the beginning of civilization, it has been reserved for a man and a woman.
